heart

National Heart Month aims to increase awareness of cardiovascular diseases and encourage people to have their heart health checked.  As we all know, the heart plays a vital role in keeping us alive by pumping blood around the body.

Why Pulse Insurance Limited are taking part in National Heart Month?

  • Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the UK and therefore it couldn’t be more important to get your heart checked.

There are two easy measures you can get to check your basic heart health: Blood pressure and Cholesterol

Blood Pressure
Ideal: 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg
High: 140/90mmHg or higher
Low: 90/60mmHg or lower

Blood pressure levels can be checked at home with a UK approved home blood pressure monitor or by a medical professional. NHS have some further information on how to check your blood pressure here

Cholesterol
Total Cholesterol: Less than 5mmol/L
HDL (Good Cholesterol): More than 1mmol/L
Non HDL (Bad Cholesterol): Less than 4mmol/L

Cholesterol levels can be checked with a blood test. For understanding more about cholesterol levels, additional information can be found at British Heart Foundation

There are a variety of factors that can negatively impact the function of the heart and increase your chance of developing cardiovascular disease including:

  • Family history
  • Age
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Poor cholesterol
  • Smoking

Fun fact: Laughing is good for your heart! It reduces stress and gives a boost to your immune system.

Get ready for a few heartwarming handpicked jokes to help share some smiles and make you giggle:

  • What’s a hearts favourite type of exercise? Cardio
  • What kind of music do hearts love? Anything with a good beat
  • What is a heart’s favourite TV programme? Heartbeat
  • We told a joke or two and they heart-ily laughed!

Ok, we promise that’s the last one …for this article!

On a more serious note, one of the best things you can do for your heart health is to exercise regularly. Exercise helps to lower blood pressure, maintain a healthy weight, improve cholesterol values and reduce inflammation across the body.

Getting Pulse Life Cover including a history of congenital heart disease

At Pulse Insurance we believe that your medical history shouldn’t be a barrier to accessing life insurance. Over the last 6 months, we have sourced personal or business life insurance cover for those who have a history of congenital heart disease. This includes Brugada syndrome, Tetralogy of Fallot, Heart valve defects, coarctation of the aorta and cardiac events that have required the insertion of an ICD.

When reviewing this type of medical history, the main areas of risk we assess are stability of the conditions, compliance with treatment, the nature and severity of complications and symptoms.

Pulse recently were able to provide life cover for a lady who was planning to start a family and identified the need for valuable family protection life cover. She had been declined by the standard life market as she had been diagnosed with Brugada syndrome and had a precautionary ICD. Pulse were able to provide this valuable cover at a reasonable cost.

Pulse are here to help provide the valuable protection that you need. For more information, or to request a quotation, please contact our Life Team or call 01280 841430 Option 4.
