Heart Month

February is Heart Month raising awareness of heart health, celebrating our loved ones and recognising the importance of protecting families.

At Pulse Insurance Limited, this month carries special meaning. Not only do we specialise in insuring people with pre‑existing medical conditions, including heart‑related conditions, but we are also proud to be fundraising for our charity of the year, British Heart Foundation (BHF). The British Heart Foundation continues to lead life‑saving research, education, and support for the 7.6 million people in the UK living with heart or circulatory disease.

This month we are excited to enter a Pulse team into the British Heart Foundation’s Walking Football Tournament, taking place later this month in Norfolk. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to have some fun and support a cause that makes a real difference.

For many, living with a heart condition can bring uncertainty whether you are managing a cardiac condition yourself or supporting someone who is. Specialist insurance can help to protect the people you love.

Why Specialist Insurance Matters

Traditional insurers often struggle to offer cover to individuals with complex health backgrounds however Pulse Insurance Limited specialises in helping people secure protection where mainstream providers may decline. Since 1998, Pulse has excelled in providing innovative life, accident, and health insurance solutions and more for people with medical conditions, high risk occupations, or unique circumstances.

Our mission is clear: to help people secure insurance cover when others cannot. This makes Pulse a trusted partner for individuals with heart disease, high blood pressure, congenital heart conditions, cardiomyopathy or a history of a stroke – areas where traditional underwriting can often be challenging.

While it’s not always possible to find cover for everyone, we pride ourselves on exploring every option and if a solution exists, we aim to find it.

Understanding Life Insurance When You Have a Heart Condition

Finding life insurance when you have a heart or circulatory condition can be challenging. Many insurers may increase premiums or decline cover entirely because they may feel certain cardiovascular conditions outside of their (or their reinsurer’s) risk appetite.

The British Heart Foundation highlights that people with heart conditions can experience difficulties obtaining life insurance or may face higher costs due to the increased likelihood of a claim.

Yet specialised Insurance options do exist.

When you work with specialist insurers or brokers who understand higher risk medical profiles. These providers can consider a range of heart conditions, including heart disease, angina, heart attacks, stroke, high blood pressure, ischaemic heart disease, including angina and heart attacks; cardiomyopathies, congenital cardiac defects, arrhythmias including ICD implants and many more risk medical profiles.

Here at Pulse Insurance Limited, we focus on offering tailored solutions, assessing each case individually rather than applying blanket exclusions.

How Pulse Can Support People with Heart Conditions

Here at Pulse Insurance Limited we apply specialist underwriting designed for unique cases and challenging medical histories. We often successfully offer insurance in scenarios where mainstream providers are unable or unwilling to quote.

 These could include:

  • People with congenital heart disease or heart valve problems
  • Individuals with a history of heart attacks
  • Those with high blood pressure or high cholesterol
  • Patients with pacemakers or arrhythmias with or without ICD
  • Cardiomyopathies
  • Individuals recovering from stroke

Heart patients often need tailored underwriting and policy structures, and that specialist providers are vital for finding the right fit.

Here at Pulse we have access to unique, niche, and highervalue forms of cover for complex risks, including expatriate insurance, income replacement, accidental death benefits, and cover for those working abroad.

What to Do If You’re Looking for Insurance and Have a Heart Condition

If you’re exploring insurance options and have a heart condition, Pulse is here to support you.

Here’s a simple guide to help you take the next step:

1.Gather Your Medical Information
Cardiovascular health varies widely, so having clear details such as your diagnosis, medications, treatment history, recent test results, and any relevant medical records can help assess your needs accurately.

2. Don’t Assume You’ll Be Declined
While some general insurers may be unable to offer cover, specialist providers like Pulse Insurance Limited often can. We regularly find solutions even in situations where others cannot. It is not always possible to find cover for every life, but we like to think if cover is available, we will find a solution.

3. Seek Specialist Support
Working with a provider experienced in high risk conditions ensures you receive fair, suitable options without unnecessary declines or inflated premiums. For example our Pulse team understands complex medical profiles and can guide you confidently.

4. Always Be Honest
Providing accurate and complete information is essential. Any missing or incorrect details could lead to issues or refusal in the event of a claim.

5. Request a Tailored Quote
Pulse makes it easy to request an initial indication of cover with individual circumstances considered.

Protect the Hearts You Love
