Life insurance and Sailing / Water Sports
Overview
It is usually possible to obtain cover for the majority of sailing and other water sports activity from mainstream insurers.
We have created a separate, specific information page for those involved in Power Boating and other forms of powered water sports (not sail boats with engines)
There are a small number of fatalities associated with sailing and other water sports in the UK, although limited as percentage of the number of participants, the risks of collision, drowning, falls and even lightning strike are nevertheless present.
Some forms of sailing / water sports do bring higher risk including:-
- trans-ocean or sailing beyond inter-coastal waters
- competitions & racing
- sailing alone or on smaller vessels beyond the coastal waters
But, even these types of sailing may not see all life insurers decline to offer cover unless you are older or have health problems or if you engage in these activities professionally or semi-professionally.

If you have been declined for whatever reason(s) as above and Pulse may be able to help. We can find often cover when others decline subject to a minimum sum insured of £25,000.
