It is not usually difficult to obtain cover for the majority of powered water sports activities from mainstream insurers.

There are a number of fatalities associated with powered water sports in the UK, although limited as percentage of the number of participants, the risks of collision, drowning and more are nevertheless present.

Some forms of sailing / water sports do bring higher risk including:-

• trans-ocean or going beyond inter-coastal waters
• higher power vessels & record attempts
• competitions & racing
• etc.

But, even these types of powered water sport may not see all life insurers decline to offer cover. Availability may be affected if you are older or have health problems or if you engage in these activities professionally or semi-professionally.
