Paul Sandilands
Chairman
Paul Sandilands read law at Cambridge and qualified as a barrister. He has been connected with Lloyd’s of London for the majority of his working life. He joined the management of Pulse with David Elliott in 2000.
In addition to working at Pulse, Paul is a non-executive director of another Lloyd’s related business, Talisman Underwriting plc.
He has written numerous articles on Lloyd’s and specialist aspects of life assurance. He has also given many talks on these subjects.
Paul says, “It is my remit to make sure that we don’t stop aiming higher. I am incredibly proud of what we do: helping people who have often been abandoned by the rest of the insurance industry. I love being able to make a difference.”
Torquil McLusky
Managing Director
Torquil joined Pulse in 2013.
He is a qualified Barrister and Chartered Insurance Broker.
He spent more than 20 years working with the Lloyd’s insurance market including four years as Lloyd’s General Representative in France; his last role in the Lloyd’s market was as Head of European Operations for a leading managing agent.
In 2007 he became UK country manager for one of the major independent French brokers before, in 2010, setting up his own broking and advisory business.
Torquil says, “I’m the one who steers, monitors and manages our organisation. I love the fact that my role allows me to be creative and innovative: building new products for people who are not able to get cover elsewhere. The fact that we are growing as an organisation by concentrating on real people not computer programmes is very important to me and the fact that we do this by being prepared to think differently. I am proud of what we do and want every everyone who needs us to know that we are here to help.”
Anthony Pilcher
Non-Executive Director
Anthony has had a long and distinguished career as an underwriter for several Lloyd’s of London businesses and Chairman of several high profile companies, including F I P Secretan & Co.
Anthony says, “I provide guidance and oversight and insight to all the other directors and make sure that the peaks and troughs of business do not put us off our stride as we build a brand that is known and trusted by specialist protection advisers and our policyholders alike. I relish meetings with the team and love the creativity and drive that is moving us forward.”
Debbie Boyles
Operations Director
Debbie joined Pulse in 2004.
She has extensive knowledge in finance. Previously, her career started off in Banking where she worked as a Personal Banker. This led her into Finance roles with one of the UK’s leading fresh food companies and her previous position of Office Manager at Pulse.
Debbie says, “It is my team that makes sure that everything runs smoothly as we are the ones responsible for keeping all of the day-to-day operations seamless and efficient. I manage the team providing the connection between our clients, advisers and intermediaries and our underwriters. I take pride in delivering our bespoke service and finding a way forward past the declines and postpones of other insurers. I work with my fellow directors to ensure we offer a joined up service.”
